Luckily, linked to the blog is the Wholesome Chow main page. In fact, the blog is written by Veronica, co-owner (with her husband and adorable baby) of Wholesome Chow. All of their baking mixes and frosting mixes are 100% vegan and gluten-free...which is pretty much perfection in my book.
I got in touch with Veronica and asked her about her wonder-mixes. She was sweet, helpful, and even let me try my choice of cake & frosting!
All of them sounded wonderful, but the chai spice sounded heavenly.
When we got back from our trip to Maine, we had a small cardboard box waiting for us. We tore it open, immediately ripping open the sealed plastic bag inside the small brown bags with the cute labels.
We stuffed our noses inside the bags, inhaling the chai spice and vanilla scents. We were drooling. The chai scent was incredible, rich with cardamom and cinnamon, just a hint of vanilla present. The vanilla frosting mix, made of just organic powdered sugar and organic vanilla powder, reminded me of Christmas- it smelled just like sugar cookies!
Bundt cakes are adorable anyway. The way the bundt forms the cake makes decorating basically unnecessary. And, I always get the most evenly cooked cakes in my bundt pan.
Its a keeper.
It took about 5 minutes from start to finish. I loved it.
The whole time I was totally enveloped in how wonderful it smelled! It had probably 2 or 3 whole spoonfuls of raw batter before pouring into my beloved bundt pan. I had to. It was sooo good!
We pulled the cake out, let it cool, and started on the frosting.
The frosting mix can be made into a thick vanilla frosting or a creamy vanilla glaze. There are also cream cheese and chocolate variations if you're feeling adventurous. We weren't.
We thought the glaze would be better on the bundt cake than a thick frosting, so we added 3 tablespoons of homemade hemp milk to the mix...and voila! Creamy, decadent vanilla glaze that only took about 2 minutes to prepare.
Since I don't normally eat tons of sugar, the frosting definitely seemed very rich, but it is frosting, and that's kind of the point.
I scarfed the down my first piece so quickly, I had to go back for a second piece.
I didn't really mind.
It was by far the best from-a-box cake I've ever eaten. And the best park? It not JUNK.
I love that Wholesome Chow is certified organic by the USDA and the CCOF. They're also certified vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO and kosher. Still not sold? On top of that, all of their prodicts are made in a facility that is 100% dedicated to being gluten, wheat, peanut, nut, dairy, and egg free.
Basically, they're certifiably some of the best dessert mixes on the market. I'm happy to say that Wholesome Chow will definitely become a go-to for quick desserts in my house.
Now I just need to get my hands on that lavender cake mix...
